We believe that care of God’s creation includes caring for all of God’s people. In 2009 the Bishops’ Call to Hope and Action stated “We cannot help the world until we change our way of being in it.” This is true for our ways of being with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) children of God. We call the church to affirm the breadth and depth of the ways in which our LGBTQ siblings reflect God’s image. Inspired by the 1972 statement that began the first General Conference conversations about LGBTQ United Methodists, we believe that LGBTQ people, no less than others, are persons of sacred worth.
The United Methodist Church has a fossil free investment fund! Wespath announced today that the Equities Social Values Plus Fund is fossil free as of April 1. This is a huge step in acknowledging the deep desire of United Methodists across the connection to to align the church’s investments with the creation care values expressed in the Social Principles.
